The upper part of the white roll stays visible between basket and hat. Lift off the hat to take out or replace the roll; the basket, limbs and open book stay together.

Shared base and roll fits: All three collections use the same basket, limbs and book construction. The Main basket is about 13.2 cm across with a 6.0 cm wall at gauge. Choose Small for a roll 9.6-10.3 cm across, Main for over 10.3 cm through 11 cm, or Large for over 11 cm through 11.7 cm. The fits are for rolls 10-11 cm tall. Measure your roll and check the openings as you work; yarn, stuffing and seams affect the finished size.

Materials: Bulky (weight 5) yarn with a 6 mm hook for the basket and hat; worsted (weight 4) yarn with a 3.5 mm hook for the limbs, book and most details. Each collection includes its character colour plans and full materials list. You will also need polyester fibrefill, a tapestry needle, scissors, pins, removable stitch markers, measuring tape, a spare toilet roll and optional ivory felt for the book pages. All pieces are soft and wire-free.

Skill: Intermediate. Spiral single crochet, waistcoat stitch, turned rows, increases, decreases, back-loop turns, colour changes, simple embroidery and sewing.

This is a decoration, not a toy. Keep small parts away from children and pets, and display the whole basket base on a dry, level surface away from water and heat.
