Meet the 21 buddies

Materials and fit

Use smooth cotton DK and a 3 mm starting hook, adjusting the hook to your swatch. You will also need a tapestry needle, scissors, stitch markers and a little filling for the heads. Faces are embroidered with yarn.

Target gauge: 24 single crochet stitches and 26 rows per 10 cm. The central disc target is about 9.5 cm across at the stated stitch gauge; heads, feet, ears and tails add to the total size. Match your cup base to the clear flat area.

Skills used

Chains, slip stitches, single crochet, increases and decreases, joined and continuous rounds, turned rows, small-piece sewing and yarn embroidery. Working methods and attachment positions are included.
