One pot, worked identically in all three patterns, and three plants that share its basic construction. The pot is a straight-walled cylinder with a sleepy embroidered face and a ridge below the rim; each plant is built on its own unstuffed soil cap. An unsewn cap can lift off only if its actual fit is stable; otherwise sew it to the rim for a fixed display. Equal counts do not guarantee an interchangeable fit. The poinsettia is eight pointed bracts radiating flat from a magic ring. The fir tree is a ridged cone worked from the tip down, with a chain garland wound down it in an open spiral. The christmas cactus is nine flat pads joined end to end into three arching strings. Three constructions, one pot, and a shelf that does not have to be cleared in January.
