- Bluefish. Denim-blue head, cream mesh, small fins and a blue forked tail with cream chevrons.

Inside the pattern
One 24-page English PDF with four fish designs, a shared elastic base, a circle-leaf openwork mesh body, solid hdc heads, flat sewn eyes, counted fins and separate tail lobes. Includes colour tables, linked contents, bookmarks, measured front drawings, US terms with UK conversion, loading instructions, care and help for common problems.
Skill: intermediate. Techniques include stacked single crochet, two-partial-dc clusters, stacked-cluster units, midpoint travel, hdc third loop, striped rows, flat discs, shaped turned rows, surface slip stitches and sewing.
Materials and size
Use worsted-weight cotton, a 4.5 mm hook for the base, mesh and arch rounds, and a 4.0 mm hook for the solid head, firm top, hanger and separate pieces. Add three thin hair ties held together or one thick elastic hair tie, a yarn needle, scissors, markers, pins and a ruler.
The tube is about 43.1 cm high and 18.3 cm at its widest laid flat, excluding the raised loop and tail tips. The head zone including its upper band is about 11.85 cm, 27.5% of the tube. Goldfish fins are 18 x 6 cm; the other fins 6 x 4 cm. Goldfish and Koi tail lobes are 16 x 7 cm each; Bluefish and Clownfish lobes 10 x 6 cm each. All fish have two flat White eye discs with Black pupils and no mouth.
Mesh row height is an estimate of about five rounds per 10 cm. Work to length: aim for 28 cm of mesh, then about 9.4 cm of solid head before the upper band. Check your gauge and elastic before continuing. Keep the loading opening and loop clear and leave at least 1 cm free around the entire outlet.
Shopping allowances: Goldfish: Cream 270 m, Orange 190 m, White 15 m, Black 8 m; Bluefish: Cream 240 m, Denim blue 150 m, White 15 m, Black 8 m; Clownfish: Cream 240 m, Orange 140 m, White 25 m, Black 20 m; Koi: Cream 240 m, White 140 m, Orange 100 m, Black 8 m.
