4 in 1 Flower Pot Plastic Bag Holder Crochet Pattern

Pull a bag from the flower pot. Give spare bags a floral home all year. A contrasting raised pot rim, dark-brown soil and green stems, lifted leaves and 3D flower heads turn an everyday kitchen holder into a potted plant. Load through the top, hang by the crochet loop and pull a bag through the elastic bottom of the pot.

Choose your flower pot

• Tulip. Five upright red, pink and yellow tulips at two heights, two closed buds and long sage leaves rise from dark-brown soil in a terracotta pot with a deep-rust rim on cream.
• Sunflower. Three large yellow sunflowers stagger left-high, right-middle and left-low with brown bobble centres and five heart-shaped leaves, rising from dark-brown soil in a whitewashed pot with a denim-blue rim.
• Lavender. Nine bobble lavender spikes in two purples and narrow grey-green leaves rise from dark-brown soil in a grey-blue pot with a whitewashed rim on pale grey for a farmhouse look.
• Rose. Three deep-pink rolled roses, two upright rosebuds and three pairs of sage leaves rise from dark-brown soil in a terracotta pot with a cream rim on blush.

Inside the pattern

Skill: intermediate. Techniques include stacked single crochet, hdc third loop, back-loop ridges, two bobble sizes, chain rays, profile tulip cups, rolled roses, lavender spikes, leaves worked on both sides of a chain, flat stem strips and sewing. The plain texture option uses two-partial-dc clusters and stacked-cluster units.

Materials and size

Use worsted-weight cotton, a 4.5 mm hook for the base, body and first top round, and a 4.0 mm hook for the firm top, hanger and plant pieces. Add three thin hair ties held together or one thick elastic hair tie, yarn needle, scissors, markers, pins, ruler and a little washable stuffing.

At the stated gauge, the tube is about 18.3 cm wide laid flat and 45.1 cm high, excluding the loop. Work 56 body rounds, including the pot rim, with a work-to-length target of 40.0 cm from B4. The raised rim lies 11.9-14.1 cm above the elastic; S17 is Dark brown soil from 14.1 to 14.8 cm; stems rise from its centre line at 14.43 cm. Background colour begins at S18. Every plant piece stays at least 1.5 cm inside both side folds. The body gauge is 18 hdc and 14 rounds per 10 cm. Make gauge pieces and check the elastic opening before continuing.
