Big enough to actually hold your bags. Four full-size fruits turn spare bags into cheerful kitchen storage. Each has a bigger body than a straight tube, an open loading top, an elastic dispensing bottom and a reinforced crochet loop.

Choose your fruit

  • Lemon. A bright yellow ovoid, narrow at both ends, with two green leaves and a short brown stem beside the loop.
  • Strawberry. A red berry with high shoulders, a rounded lower point, six green calyx leaves and staggered yellow seeds.
  • Pineapple. A golden oval with a light-brown diagonal lattice and eight upright, double-layer crown leaves in two greens.
  • Pear. A soft green pear with a low bulb, a narrow upper neck, a blush cheek, one green leaf and a brown stem.

Inside the pattern

One 23-page English PDF with four different shaped bodies, every body round, colour tables, counted leaves and details, side profiles drawn from stitch widths, measured front placements, linked contents and page bookmarks. Includes the shared elastic base, top and hanging loop, US terms with UK conversion, loading, care and help for common problems.

Skill: intermediate. Techniques include stacked single crochet, evenly spaced and staggered hdc increases and decreases, leaves on both sides of a chain, French knots, surface slip stitch and sewing. The pineapple has eight double-layer crown leaves and a counted diagonal lattice.

Materials and finished sizes

Use worsted-weight cotton, a 4.5 mm hook for base, body and first top round, and a 4.0 mm hook for the firm top, hanger and separate pieces. Add three thin hair ties held together or one thick elastic hair tie, yarn needle, scissors, markers, pins and ruler.

Body gauge: 18 hdc and 14 rounds per 10 cm. At gauge, each tube is about 45.1 cm high, excluding the loop and leaves. Work to length for a complete tube 40-46 cm high. Lemon, Strawberry and Pear are about 30.0 cm wide laid flat; Pineapple about 26.7 cm.
