Four fresh fruit slices to carry
Crochet a small half-moon crossbody bag that looks like a fruit slice. This 18-page PDF includes one shared bag base and four fruit chapters: Watermelon, Orange, Lemon and Kiwi. The front and back grow from the centre of the straight top edge in curved, turned single crochet rows, giving concentric colour bands on both faces.
Pattern details
Choose your fruit
- Watermelon: red flesh, one white row, light and dark green rind, and 14 black teardrop seeds on each face.
- Orange: orange flesh and rind, a white pith band, seven white segment lines and a small white centre dot on each face.
- Lemon: pale yellow flesh, white pith, yellow rind, seven white segment lines and a small white centre dot on each face.
- Kiwi: a cream core, bright green flesh, a pale green-yellow inner rind band, brown rind and 16 black seeds around the core on each face.
Size and construction
At 13 sc and 13 rows per 10 cm, the bag is about 24.6 cm wide x 13.1 cm tall x 5.4 cm deep, including its top finishing row. Each half-disc panel is about 24.6 x 12.3 cm. It holds a phone up to about 16 x 8 cm lying sideways. The 3-stitch crossbody strap measures about 115.4 cm between its sewn attachment seams. A 48-stitch gusset joins the curved edges; the straight edges form the opening, with a sew-on magnetic snap at the centre. Optional fabric lining instructions are included.
Materials
Use 2 mm woven cord yarn held DOUBLE with a 3.5 mm hook for both bag panels, the gusset and the strap. For seeds, segment lines and centre dots, use ONE strand of the same cord or cotton and a yarn needle. You will also need one sew-on magnetic snap set, a sewing needle and strong matching thread, scissors, stitch markers and a tape measure. Light woven fabric, tracing paper and sewing thread are optional for the lining.
US crochet terms, written rows with stitch counts, a shared colour-band map, staggered increases, a numbered map for both seams, strap and closure diagrams, fruit detail maps, linked contents and a bookmark for every page.
