Pattern details

Choose your starting point

  • Stripe Patchwork Tote - confident beginner. Four striped squares per face, neighbouring stripes turned through 90 degrees, dark Plum edging and long folded handles. Carry both stripe colours up the edge.
  • Granny Mesh Market Bag - confident beginner. A bright two-course granny-square lower basket, deep Teal mesh, two tapered straps joined at the top, two small crochet beads and a short side tassel.
  • Diamond Granny Shoulder Bag - confident beginner with shaped assembly. Six solid granny squares and eight half-square fillers form two pointed faces. Two-round Forest and Chalk stripes reduce colour changes; flat crochet handles and sizes for optional purchased handles are included.
  • Colour Block Tote - intermediate. Three staggered rectangles on a Charcoal front and a plain back. No row uses more than two colours. Follow the large lettered chart and short colour runs, or make the blocks separately and sew them onto a plain front.

Inside the pattern

Large clear body type, counted tables, numbered layouts, a split-page 64-stitch colour chart, handle positions, linked contents and bookmarks, US crochet terms and a UK conversion table. Piece counts are 10, 19, 16 and 4 respectively; the sewn-block option has seven pieces. Optional fabric liners are included for the Diamond, Colour Block and Stripe Patchwork bags.

Materials and finished sizes

Use Worsted / Aran weight (#4) cotton and a 4.0 mm hook, matching the blocked gauge. Plain sc uses 20 stitches and 20 rows per 10 cm; granny and mesh swatches have their own targets. Add a yarn needle, markers, scissors, tape measure and pins. The Mesh bag needs a little washable stuffing and a tassel card; optional liners use woven cotton, sewing thread and a needle.

At gauge: Diamond about 35.36 x 26.52 cm, Colour Block 32 x 33 cm and Stripe Patchwork 31 x 32 cm, all laid flat. Mesh is 31.5 cm across its laid-flat opening and 32 cm tall, with a 21 x 10.5 cm base. Nominal U-shaped handle drops are 20.16 cm for Diamond, 23.25 cm for Mesh and 21 cm for each flat tote. Cotton, tension, blocking and carrying shape affect the final measurements.
