Four familiar quilt blocks, made into everyday crochet totes

Grandmother's Flower Garden, Log Cabin, Dresden Plate and Ohio Star bring the quiet comfort of family quilts to a practical cotton bag. Choose hexagon flowers, a light-and-dark log diamond, a round fan of pointed blades or a bold navy star. Carry your tote to church, the market, the library or a quilt guild meeting.
Pattern details

This 48-page English PDF includes four complete tote designs. The shared gusset, top band, shoulder handles and optional fabric liner are printed once, followed by a full chapter for each design.

Inside the pattern

  • Eight flowers on each Flower Garden panel: two complete and six cut by the edge, with cream garden paths, counted half-hexagons and corner quarters, and a numbered joining chart.
  • Eight Log Cabin blocks per tote, with red hearths, a picked-up count for every log and a four-block diamond on each panel.
  • A Dresden Plate on each cream background, with 16 pointed blades and a round red centre.
  • One large nine-patch Ohio Star on each panel, using mitred squares, four-colour quarter-square triangles and written colour runs.
  • Large clear type, counted rows and rounds, colour and yarn tables, vector layouts, linked contents, bookmarks, US terms and a UK conversion table.

Materials and size

Use Worsted / Aran weight (#4) cotton and a 4.0 mm hook, adjusted to gauge. The main fabric uses 20 sc stitches and 20 rows per 10 cm. Each tote measures about 32 cm wide x 33 cm tall with an 8 cm gusset. Two folded handles each have a 55 cm free shoulder span, plus sewn ends. Finished sizes depend on gauge and blocking.

Plan cotton scraps by colour with the shopping allowances in each chapter. Keep yarns similar in thickness and use colourfast cotton. Add a yarn needle, markers, tape measure, scissors and pins; the optional liner uses two 42 x 39 cm fabric pieces, sewing thread and a sewing needle.

Confident beginner to intermediate. A digital PDF crochet pattern only; no finished tote, yarn or fabric is included. Wash gently in cool water, reshape and dry flat.
