Pattern details

This 41-page English PDF includes all eight figures. A shared flat weighted base, round head, mitten hands, hair caps and beards are printed once, followed by each figure's two-page chapter with its own counted robe, colour plan, clothing and accessories.

Inside the pattern

  • Eight individual standing figures with robes reaching the base, small dot eyes, nose bumps and light blush. No mouth is added; Mary has no beard.
  • Counted shoulder mantles, head veil, headcloth, sewn hood, loop curls, flat beards, gold trims and tie belts.
  • Counted lantern, optional wire-cored crochet crook, tiny lamb, two keys, book cover and cream pages, scroll and bird.
  • Clear counted tables, per-figure yarn allowances, simple front drawings with sizes, linked contents, bookmarks, assembly and care.
  • US crochet terms with UK conversion, gauge, safety-eye and embroidered-dot-eye options, and help with common problems.

Materials and size

Use smooth worsted / Aran weight (#4) cotton, one strand, with a 3.0 mm hook at 22 sc and 24 rows over 10 cm. Add polyester filling, two 6 mm safety eyes per figure or black embroidery thread, a yarn needle, markers, pins, thin felt, a firm cardboard or plastic-canvas insert and 70 g of poly pellets securely enclosed in a double-sewn fabric pouch per figure. The Shepherd's crook can contain an optional 22 cm covered wire with both ends folded back and taped.

Approximate heights: Jesus 18.4 cm; Mary 18.6 cm; Joseph 18.6 cm; Shepherd 18.4 cm; Peter 18.4 cm; Paul 18.4 cm; John 18.4 cm; Francis 18.6 cm. Every base is about 7.8 cm across and every head about 6.9 cm across. Gauge, filling and arranging affect the final size.

Shopping allowances per figure: Jesus 230 m; Mary 250 m; Joseph 258 m; Shepherd 273 m; Peter 205 m; Paul 253 m; John 250 m; Francis 228 m. The pattern gives the allowance for each colour.

Confident beginner / intermediate. These are decorative display pieces, not toys. Keep pellets, optional wire, eyes and all small parts away from small children and pets. Cover both wire ends completely, keep the insert dry, dust gently and lift from under the base.

Digital PDF crochet pattern only; finished figures, yarn, eyes, inserts, pellets, wire and tools are not included.
