Materials: DK cotton, a 2.0 mm hook, polyester fibrefill, tapestry needle, scissors, pins, removable stitch markers and measuring tape. Use a pair of 6 mm safety eyes, or embroider the eyes for children. Fine contrasting thread supplies noses, mouths, whiskers and markings. For each keychain, add a 15 mm split ring and a small lobster clasp, or use the reinforced yarn loop alone. Lucky Cat uses a 5 mm bell with a sewing eye, with an embroidered gold option. A 2.5 mm hook is an option for a slightly larger version; check the new gauge and eye fit.
Skill: Confident beginner. Techniques include spiral sc rounds, turned rows, increases, decreases, BLO and FLO, one-top loop stitches, folded closing edges, whole-round colour changes, flat sewn patches and embroidery.
Size: about 6.5-7.5 cm tall at the stated gauge, within a 6-8 cm size range. The body is about 2.7 cm across and the head about 3.4 cm across. Measure from the body base to the crown or highest ear tip, including short tufts and excluding the yarn hanger, split ring and clasp. Keep feet, tails, ruffs and the small ear bow within that outline. Your yarn, gauge, stuffing and assembly determine the final size.
A keychain is an accessory, not a toy. Keep small parts and yarn loops away from children and pets. Use embroidered eyes for children and keep the finished accessory out of reach of young children. Follow the cotton yarn label for care. Digital crochet instructions only; no finished cats, yarn, stuffing or hardware are included.
