Twenty-one mixed bouquets, one crochet PDF
Make a small floral gift that opens around a cup. With nothing on it, the coaster sits right side up as a low dome: centre raised, rim on the table and flowers splayed out. Set a cup on the centre and it presses down, lifting the rim flowers around the cup like a bouquet. Lift the cup and the flowers relax.

Materials: 4-ply milk cotton. Work the base with 2 strands held together on a 3.0 mm hook. Work the edge and every flower, leaf, calyx and stem with 1 strand on a 2.0 mm hook. You also need a yarn needle, scissors, removable stitch markers and a little fibrefill for the tulips. Sew every piece securely to the underside of the outer rim.
Size: the base is about 8.8 cm across at Rnd 5 before the sc edge, with a clear centre about 7.1 cm across at Rnd 4. Choose a cup foot up to 6.5 cm across. At the working gauge of 18 dc and 11 rows over 10 cm for the doubled base, these measurements apply to all 21 designs. Single-strand motifs use 32 sc and 36 rows over 10 cm; stems use 10 returned slip stitches over 3 cm. Ch 10, 11 or 12 gives a stem about 2.7, 3.0 or 3.3 cm long, with its head centre about 2.1, 2.4 or 2.7 cm beyond the rim after sewing. The paired spikes place their lower heads one stitch below the tops. Yarn and tension affect the finished size.
Skill level: confident beginner, with joined rounds, small motifs and sewing. Digital crochet instructions only; finished coasters, yarn and tools are not included.
