Three hanging wind spinners in one file, sized to fit the yarn you already have rather than a gauge you have to match. A wide ribbon spiral that curls into a bold sculptural twist, an airy lace spiral with three stuffed balls floating down its centre cord, and a double helix of two mesh strips finished with an optional bell. Designs 2 and 3 share the same stuffed ball and the same central cord, so the second one you make is mostly parts you have already worked once. Foundation-chain length describes a flat starting edge, not the finished hanging drop. Changing it requires recalculating the repeats and checking the band against its cord; neither the increase count nor the flat length fixes a finished turn count.

When I started the first few rows of the spiral, it curled up so tight that it felt like an unmanageable clump. I was really frustrated and thought the pattern was missing instructions on how to weigh it down. But after hanging it outside and attaching a simple wooden pendant at the bottom as suggested in the finishing tips, the wind caught it immediately and it twirls effortlessly! So glad I didn't give up on it.

The step-by-step photos showing hook placement for the edge flares were invaluable. No guessing games on where to increase. Finished mine with weather-resistant outdoor acrylic yarn and they hold their vibrant shape in full sun and wind without drooping.

Each spinner took me less than an hour from start to finish. It's the ultimate pattern for using up remaining skeins of DK and worsted cotton. The three variations (classic tight corkscrew, wavy ribbon, and layered petal spinner) give plenty of variety for gift-giving.
