Three woodland mushroom designs for a cosy Christmas
Crochet a deep-red spotted toadstool, a broad two-tone Woodland Porcini and a little Button Mushroom Pair. Each finished design is a stuffed three-dimensional ornament with a crocheted hanging loop at the cap top. The pair contains two mushrooms of different heights, sewn together at the base into one ornament.

Choose your mushroom
- Red Toadstool: a domed deep-red cap with seven sewn crochet-circle spots, a flat cream underside with front-post gill ridges, and a cream stem with a small ruffled skirt and slightly bulbous base. Target body height 7-8 cm.
- Woodland Porcini: a wide chestnut bun cap with a lighter rim, and a thick pale-beige stem, wider at the base, with a subtle surface-crochet net. Target body height 6-7 cm.
- Little Button Mushroom Pair: exactly two cream-and-tan mushrooms of different heights, with darker gill rings and a reinforced base join. Target overall body height about 5 cm.
Materials and skill level
Intermediate. Use DK cotton and a starting 3.0 mm hook; match 22 single crochet stitches and 24 rows or rounds per 10 cm. You also need toy stuffing, a yarn needle, removable stitch markers, scissors and a ruler. Techniques include magic rings, joined rounds, increases, decreases, front-post double crochet, back-loop crochet, surface slip stitches and sewing small pieces.
Spots, textures, skirt, loops and garland cord are made from yarn. No wire, beads, felt, glue or bought hanging parts are required. Body heights exclude the hanging loops and depend on yarn, tension, stuffing and assembly. Garland length refers to its relaxed crochet cord before hanging.
For a mixed woodland display, 3-in-1 Pinecone ornaments can be added using their separate patterns.
