Materials and construction

Use 2 mm woven craft cord, TWO strands for the shells with a 3.5 mm hook. Handles and tabs use ONE strand with 2.5 mm and 3.0 mm hooks as directed. Scenes use one strand of DK cotton with a 2.0 mm hook. The shoulder bag flap and optional crochet strap also use two cord strands. US crochet terms with UK conversion; confident beginner.

Each tote uses a 22 x 10 cm pre-punched base with 52 holes, 100 stitches around and 32 body rounds. Its flattened shell measures about 27.78 x 20 cm, with 28 cm handle tubes. The round bucket is about 19.10 cm across and 25 cm tall to its relaxed ruffle, with a 22.5 cm straight wall. The shoulder bag is about 23.59 x 16.25 x 6.37 cm, with a 110-120 cm chain strap, nominally 115 cm. Sizes are at gauge.

Per-bag cord shopping allowances: Snowfriends 500 m Red + 150 m Cream; Bucket 650 m Green + 220 m Cream; Wreath 430 m Red + 190 m Cream; Cottage 140 m Green + 510 m Cream. The PDF gives cotton allowances for every colour. Reserve a further 120 m Red cord for the crocheted shoulder strap alternative.

You will also need liner fabric, strong thread, needles, markers and scissors. The shoulder bag uses a gold turn-lock and two closed D-rings; use a bought chain with swivel clasps or make the crochet strap. A sew-on magnetic snap option is included. Three 8 mm bells are needed for the complete set. Metal parts and small parts must be kept away from young children; these bags are accessories, not toys.
