Four Christmas characters for a little crossbody phone bag

Make a Christmas Gnome, Snowman, Gingerbread House or Reindeer on a cord phone bag with a tapered flap, magnetic snap and matching crocheted strap. Pattern details

Inside the pattern

  • A 17-stitch front and back, a 63-stitch gusset, two 23 + 17 + 23 seams and a 3-stitch crossbody strap.
  • An eyeless gnome with a pink nose, holly, a floppy red cone rising 2 cm above the bag and a white beard hanging 2 cm below its base.
  • A snowman with dot eyes, a black top hat, a carrot projecting 2 cm outward and a red scarf with a 4 cm free tail over the right side.
  • A gingerbread house with a lifting roof, two scalloped icing strips, twelve icing dots, two yellow panes, a striped door frame, five gumdrops and a tiny gingerbread man.
  • A reindeer with lined ears, antlers rising 2.5 cm above the top, a cream muzzle, a red bobble nose, holly and a ribbon bell.
  • Counted rows and rounds, a colour beside every instruction, US terms with UK conversion, gauge, sewing diagrams, a measured front drawing per character, linked contents, bookmarks, optional lining and care.

Materials and finished size

Each bag body is about 13 x 18 cm at gauge; the free strap is about 95-100 cm. Body colours are red, icy blue, caramel and chestnut. Character pieces are divided between the flap and front so the flap opens. The gnome has no eyes; no character has a mouth.

Use 2 mm woven craft cord held TWO strands together on a 3.5 mm hook for all bag parts and the strap. Use ONE strand of DK cotton on a 2.0-2.5 mm hook for character pieces and edging. Add one four-hole sew-on magnetic snap set, needles, strong thread, markers, scissors, a ruler and a little stuffing. Fabric lining and covered antler wire are optional. Reindeer also uses a 6 mm bell and 15 cm ribbon.

Shopping allowance per bag: 350 m of main-colour cord, plus the per-colour DK amounts printed in the PDF. Loose crochet piece totals, including the four bag parts: Gnome 14, Snowman 12, Gingerbread House 23, Reindeer 25. The edging is worked in place. Intermediate: small counted pieces, texture stitches and careful sewing.

The same four characters are available as a tote bag pattern for a matching set. Sizes depend on gauge, shaping and sewing. Spot clean and dry flat. Keep any wire ends folded, taped and enclosed. Decorative bag, not a toy. Digital PDF crochet pattern only; no finished bag or materials are included.
