Four Christmas gnomes for a cosy handmade blanket
Make large solid granny squares with a flat floppy-hat gnome on each one, then join them into a festive throw. A round nose, long strand beard, small crocheted pompom and two low boot cups give every gnome its character. Four-petal corner flowers sit over the square meetings.
Pattern details
This 50-page English PDF includes four designs sharing one counted square, gnome and blanket system. The shared instructions are printed once, followed by a chapter for each colourway and its hat details.
Inside the pattern
- Red Gnome: Cream squares, Red frames and joins, Red hats, White pompoms, Cream beards, Grey-brown boots and Peach noses.
- Nordic Gnome: Cream squares, Navy frames, alternating Navy and Red hats and a tiny White stitched snowflake on every hat.
- Forest Gnome: Oatmeal squares, Forest-green frames and hats, three Red holly berries per gnome and Brown boots.

Materials and size
Use worsted / Aran weight (#4) acrylic or cotton, a 5.0 mm hook for squares and borders and a 4.0 mm hook for applique. Add a yarn needle, markers, pins, scissors, tape measure and an optional tiny amount of washable filling.
Each blocked square is 21 x 21 cm and its arranged gnome is about 15.5 cm tall. At gauge, the 5 x 6 throw is about 119.5 x 149.5 cm, the 3 x 4 baby / lap layout is 77.5 x 107.5 cm and the 7 x 2 bed runner is 161.5 x 65.5 cm, including the end bands and outer border. Finished sizes depend on gauge, joining and washing.
A decorated square uses eight crocheted pieces for Red or Nordic, eleven for Forest, or nine for Candy, plus 26 folded fringe strands. Corner flowers are additional blanket pieces. Per-size shopping allowances in metres and yards are split by colour in the PDF.
Intermediate level. Wash gently according to the yarn labels, support the wet blanket and dry flat. The smaller layout with loose fringe and sewn details is for supervised decorative use and should stay out of an infant sleep space.
