4 in 1 Christmas Tissue Box Cover

• Snowflake. Cream pouch, icy-blue lace and light-blue cord; two white flat snowflakes with six arms each. Four crochet pieces.
• Gingerbread. Warm brown pouch, white icing arches and red cord; one flat gingerbread man with white embroidery and one red-and-white peppermint candy. Four crochet pieces. The gingerbread man is worked as one flat piece, with the head, arms and legs shaped in.

Skill: confident beginner. The poinsettias use six roomy ch-2 spaces for their pointed petals.

Materials and sizes

Use DK / light worsted cotton and a 3.5 mm hook. Main gauge: 18 dc and 9 rows per 10 cm. Small pieces: 22 sc and 24 rows per 10 cm. Add a yarn needle, scissors, ruler, markers and your box; the baubles need washable stuffing.

Fits a standard rectangular tissue box, a cube box, or a low box / soft pack. Choose Standard for a box about 24 x 12 x 9 cm (9.4 x 4.7 x 3.6 in), Cube for about 11.5 x 11.5 x 13 cm (4.5 x 4.5 x 5 in), or Low for about 22 x 11.5 x 7 cm. The flat dc bases before the turning border are about 23.3 x 11.1 cm, 11.1 x 11.1 cm and 21.1 x 11.1 cm respectively.

Ungathered heights including lace: Standard 16.3 cm, Cube 19.6 cm and Low 14.1 cm. The longer chain cords are about 130 cm, 105 cm and 125 cm before knots. Check your own box and gauge before starting. The border bends into the lower wall and the top folds over the box.

Shopping allowance for pouch yarn: Standard 180 m, Cube 130 m, Low 150 m, plus 10 m each for lace and cord. Add ornament colours: Poinsettia 10 m each red, green and yellow; baubles 20 m red and 10 m gold; Snowflake 10 m white; Gingerbread 10 m each brown, red and white including icing. Add matching colours to the pouch or trim amount. Actual yarn use varies.

Untie the bow to refill. Keep the tissue opening clear. Remove the box before washing; wash gently, reshape and dry flat. Decoration only: keep small parts, cords and ornaments away from young children.
