Tidy the bag drawer — Christmas to spring. Give spare bags a cheerful home with two Christmas characters and two spring designs. Load through the top, hang by the crochet loop and pull a bag through the elastic bottom.

Choose your kitchen companion

  • Gnome. A heather grey body, a tall flat red hat with a loose forward tip, a white bobble brim, a long loop-stitch beard and a round pink nose. Leave the face without eyes.
  • Snowman. A white tube, black top hat, dot eyes, carrot nose, striped neck scarf and three dark bobbles. Leave the mouth unstitched.
  • Daisy. Seven white daisies with yellow bobble centres cascade diagonally across pink, with six green leaves and five tiny white knots.
  • Bunny. Two tall double-layer ears, a cream face, dot eyes, a pink nose and cheek lines over mint, with a little carrot below and a white bobble tail on the back. Leave the mouth unstitched.

Inside the pattern

One 24-page English PDF with four character designs, a shared elastic base, a smooth body for all four characters, and an optional plain circle-leaf body in two lengths. Includes counted rows and rounds, colour tables, linked contents, page bookmarks, front placement drawings with sizes, US terms with UK conversion, loading instructions, care and help for common problems.

Skill: intermediate. Techniques include stacked single crochet, two-partial-dc clusters, stacked-cluster units, hdc third loop, loop stitch, bobbles, French knots, small shaped parts and sewing. The gnome has a flat red hat appliqué with a loose forward tip; the top opening stays clear. The bunny ears use two crochet layers without wire.

Materials and size

Use worsted-weight cotton, a 4.5 mm hook for the base and body, and a 4.0 mm hook for the firm top, hanger and decorations. Add three thin hair ties held together or one thick elastic hair tie, a yarn needle, scissors, markers, ruler and a little washable stuffing.

At the stated smooth gauge, the tube is about 18.3 cm wide laid flat and 45.1 cm high, excluding the loop and character extensions. Work 56 body rounds, with a work-to-length target of 40.0 cm before the top. The plain circle-leaf option uses an estimated five rounds per 10 cm; work to length, rather than relying on a fixed round count. Bunny ears rise 10.0 cm above the rim; the scarf has one 15.0 cm tail. Make the gauge pieces and check the elastic opening before continuing.
