Four gentle animal loveys, one crochet PDF

Choose a lilac-grey bear with round ears, an ivory bunny with tall cupped ears, a soft grey or powder-blue elephant with broad ears and a short trunk, or a cream lamb with floppy ears and a curly crown. All four have embroidered sleepy faces, soft arms and the same textured square blanket.

Materials: DK cotton, a 4.0 mm hook for the blanket and a 2.5 mm hook for the head, arms and animal pieces; polyester fibrefill; embroidery cotton; tapestry needle, scissors, removable markers, pins and measuring tape. At 130 m per 50 g, allow 150 g / 390 m for Bear, 175 g / 455 m for Bunny, 175 g / 455 m for Elephant, or 150 g / 390 m cream plus an optional 25 g / 65 m beige or taupe for Lamb. These are buying allowances; use varies with yarn, tension and finishing.

Skill: Confident beginner / intermediate. Work includes joined blanket rounds, spiral sc rounds, invisible decreases, a back-loop sc2tog, front-post dc, flattened closures, bobbles, sewing and embroidery.

Size: blanket about 29.5 x 29.5 cm flat and head about 6.4 cm across at the stated gauge, excluding ears, trunk and tuft. The target bands are 28-31 cm for the blanket side and 6.0-6.8 cm for head width. Yarn, tension, blocking and stuffing affect the final size.

Safe use: A lovey is a comfort toy for awake, supervised time; keep it and all soft objects out of a baby's sleep space; use embroidered faces only, with no safety eyes, buttons, beads or bells; check seams before each use.
