Materials: matte sport or light DK cotton, a 2.5-3.0 mm hook, polyester fibrefill, black embroidery thread, pink yarn for cheeks, tapestry needle, scissors, removable markers, pins and ruler. Per-colour yarn purchase allowances are included for each animal. No wire or rigid neck insert is required.

Skill: intermediate. Techniques include continuous single crochet rounds, turned rows, increases, invisible decreases, loop stitches, full-round colour changes, simple embroidery and sewing.

Size: Lion, Elephant, Zebra, Monkey and Hippo are about 10-13 cm sitting. Giraffe is about 14-17 cm tall because of its long neck. Sizes include sewn head details at the stated gauge of 26 sc and 28 rows or rounds per 10 cm. Yarn, filling, tension and assembly affect the finished size.

Faces use embroidered dot eyes and blush. Optional 4-5 mm safety eyes require fitted washers and are unsuitable for children under 3 because of small parts. Secure all seams, manes, tufts and long tails, and inspect them regularly. Spot clean gently and air dry.
