Ten little cats, one crochet collection

Make a small family of cats for a shelf, desk or cat-lover gift. Orange Tabby, Tuxedo, Calico, Grey Tabby, Siamese, Black Cat, White Cat, Ginger, Sleepy and Christmas share one sitting kitten base with pointed ears, Pink triangle noses and embroidered whiskers. Their coats and small accessories give each cat its own character.

Materials: smooth sport-weight cotton, a 2.5 mm crochet hook adjusted to gauge, polyester fibrefill, embroidery thread, tapestry needle, scissors, stitch markers, pins and ruler. Grey Tabby's knitted scarf also needs 2.75 mm needles adjusted to its separate gauge. No metal bell, wire or rigid insert is required.

Skill: intermediate crochet, with basic knitting for one scarf. Techniques include continuous sc rounds, turned rows, increases, invisible decreases, whole-round colour changes, flat patches, embroidery and sewing. The flower also uses hdc and dc.

Size: 11-13 cm sitting, excluding the tail, at 28 sc and 30 rows or rounds per 10 cm. The shared kitten is about 11.8 cm high x 5.6 cm wide; Christmas is about 12.5 cm high with its hat folded. Sleepy uses the same base in a curled pose, about 5.5 cm high, or 6.1 cm including its 9.3 x 7.3 x 0.7 cm cushion. Yarn, gauge, filling and assembly affect size.

All eyes are embroidered by default; Sleepy has closed-arc eyes. Optional safety eyes use the same placement. If safety eyes are used, keep the cat away from children under 3. Sew small accessories permanently in place and spot-clean gently.
